Terms of Service
Last updated: 8 August 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Vaibhav Srivastava, sole proprietor, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India, who operates PDFRetype ("the Service", "we", "us"). By accessing or using the Service you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
The Service converts documents (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, images, HTML, Markdown, plain text) between formats, using OCR where needed, and provides related PDF utilities (merge, split, compress, watermark, password protect/unlock, and similar). It is provided free of charge, without accounts, for personal and commercial use. The Service may be supported by advertising; it remains free either way. There are no paid plans and therefore no fees and no refunds — a refund policy is stated as not applicable by design.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or use the Service under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You must be legally capable of entering into a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
3. Your content and your responsibility
- You retain all rights to the documents you upload and the files converted from them. We claim no ownership.
- You grant us only the limited, temporary licence necessary to process your documents for the conversion you request — nothing more. That licence ends when your files are deleted (automatically within 24 hours; see the Privacy Policy).
- You are solely responsible for the content you upload. You represent that you have the right to process it, and that it does not violate any law or third-party right.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you lack the right to process (including removing password protection from documents you are not authorised to access);
- attempt to breach workspace isolation, probe, overload, or disrupt the Service, or circumvent rate limits and fair-use caps (currently 25 MB / 120 pages per document, with per-minute and per-day request limits);
- resell, scrape, or wrap the Service as your own offering without written permission;
- use the Service to violate the Information Technology Act, 2000 or any other applicable law.
We may throttle, refuse, or block usage that violates this section, and may remove content or cooperate with lawful orders where legally required to do so.
5. Our intellectual property
The Service's software, design, brand, and content (excluding your documents) are our property or licensed to us. These Terms grant you no rights in them beyond ordinary use of the Service.
6. Honest limits of the Service ("as is")
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Specifically and honestly: OCR and layout reconstruction are imperfect by nature — conversion fidelity varies with the input (we publish measured accuracy figures rather than promising perfection), and you are responsible for reviewing converted output before relying on it, especially for legal, financial, or medical documents. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to the Service; and (b) our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service shall not exceed INR 1,000 — a figure that reflects a free service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
8. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from your content or your violation of these Terms or of applicable law.
9. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time — with no account, there is nothing to close; your data deletes itself within 24 hours. We may suspend or restrict access (including by workspace or IP) for violations of these Terms, and may modify or discontinue the Service; the Privacy Policy's deletion promises survive any discontinuation.
10. Grievance redressal
Complaints under these Terms, the Information Technology Act, 2000, or the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 go to our Grievance Officer:
- Name: Vaibhav Srivastava
- Email: support@pdfretype.com (subject "Grievance")
We will acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any mandatory law giving you rights in your own forum, the courts at Ranchi, Jharkhand, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Service.
12. General
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect (severability). Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms plus the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. We may update these Terms; the "Last updated" date changes and material changes are announced on the site before taking effect. Continued use after changes take effect is acceptance.
